The remarkably candid, up-close video, taken by Cy Williams at the Knudson Cove Marina in Ketchikan, is both alluring and frightening.
The action is not unusual for humpbacks, which feed by forcing herring and krill toward the surface in a ring of bubbles they blow, then breech the lunch-laden water with mouths wide open. But it’s not something you usually see when standing in a marina.
Something to consider next time you’re about to jump off the dock.
