Experience
My professional career started on the Microsoft campus in Washington State. Obsessed with technology, I landed the best job I could imagine — software test engineer for the world leader in software. Little did I know that the analytic skills that I developed there would pay dividends after I left the desk job and started to test myself in the mountains. I left tech to become an endurance coach, a sponsored athlete, and a writer after Trail Runner magazine offered me a position as their “Ask the Coach” columnist. Since then I’ve written for outlets as wide ranging as The New Yorker and as specific as Outside magazine and have used my hard earned expertise to review everything from backcountry skis to trail running backpacks. As a sponsored athlete for more than a decade I worked closely with Montrail and Altra running shoes.

A Word From Matt Hart
I seem to have an innate desire to figure out how things work and I grew up on Jon Krakauer. As an endurance coach for Trail Runner magazine writing about sports science. I enjoy running or skinning up mountains and careening down, finance and economics, narrative nonfiction, and learning how to raise awesome kids.
