The latest trend in whitewater kayak design is to meld a creek boat with a half-slice. This creates a playful but forgiving whitewater boat suitable for a wide range of paddlers. Nearly every whitewater kayak company has brought one of these new boat designs to market in the last 6 months. Today, Dagger joins the movement with the Indra.
Dagger’s Words
Dagger had this to say about its new creation:
“A familiar and confident bow is built to rise over drops, waves, and hydraulics. A wide planing hull keeps the kayak on top of the water and a tapered deck allows the boat to slice through currents, load the stern, and skip through rapids. Camber in the wide tail turns the momentum of a climbing bow into controlled and playful downstream acceleration. Smooth, fast, predictable, and playful, the Indra is bound to be a modern classic.”
The Dogg’s Tale
The Dagger Indra has been in testing for more than a year, and the company’s athletes have paddled multiple prototypes all over the globe. My longtime friend and trusted paddling partner, Bobby “The Dogg” Miller, is on Team Dagger and has been part of the development team since the beginning.
He sums up the new boat like this:
“The Indra is a dynamic design that shines in big water and at launching over features. The extreme rocker profile and wide bow lifts you free of the water for amazing skips. The slicy stern allows you to lift the bow and accurately place it exactly where you want it to go. The sharp edges carve precise turns and the secondary stability gives you the confidence to lean into it as you ride the rail. The Indra is a fun kayak for all skill levels that gives you half-slice performance with creek boat friendliness to help enhance your kayaking proficiency.”
What Is the Dagger Indra?
The Dagger Indra sounds and looks like a boat designed to be a one-boat quiver for beginners who want to river run and progress their skills. Or, an alternative to a creek boat or half-slice for the advanced paddler looking to confidently play down big water and creeks.
It combines the stability and predictability of a creek boat with the control and liveliness of a half-slice. With its massive bow rocker, big planning hull, peaked deck, centralized volume, and high knee position, the Indra should be a very forgiving kayak.
The Indra should also give paddlers confidence to run difficult whitewater while being dynamic enough to be exciting to paddle on all whitewater.
