This weekend, November 18 – 20, Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis hosts its twice-annual Outdoor Adventure Expo, a festival with 70+ exhibitors, presentations, food, and copious amounts of outdoors gear on sale. The Expo, held in tents behind the Minneapolis store as well as in adjacent buildings at the University of Minnesota, is a stop on the Banff Mountain Film Festival world tour. In addition, this year the Expo will feature speakers including Peter Athans, climber Scott Backes, polar explorer Lonnie Dupre, and Charlie Wittmack of “The World Tri” expedition presenting on stage in the University’s Humphrey Center auditorium.
Gear Junkie will be there, too. On Sunday, November 20th, at 2:15pm in the Humphrey Center auditorium, Gear Junkie founder Stephen Regenold will present the publication’s 2011 ‘Top 10 Gear’ awards on stage. In addition to the gear talk, Regenold will highlight his year of adventures around the world, from South America to the Austrian Alps. Here’s the program description from the Adventure Expo page:
In 2011, Minneapolis-based adventurer/journalist Stephen Regenold, a syndicated newspaper columnist and the founder of GearJunkie.com, traveled from Chile to the Austrian Alps to the woods of northern Minnesota to test gear and push his limits. In September, Regenold hiked Minnesota’s 65-mile Border Route Trail in less than 35 hours. He led a race team to a 2nd-place finish in the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, a week-long event in Chile last winter. Over the summer, Regenold bagged peaks from the High Uintas Wilderness to the Austrian Alps. This presentation will highlight Regenold’s trips around the world as well as the gear that made the adventures possible.
Prizes and gear giveaways will follow the 45-minute video and photographic presentation. Hope you can be there for the show!
