When a piece of gear shows up on the shelves of Dick’s Sporting Goods, you know it has officially reached peak market penetration. And sometimes that’s a good thing.
The YogaSlackers group have gone mainstream with their new slacklines, now being distributed by Slackline Industries of Louisville, Colo.
The core product, the YogaSlackers 49 FT. Yogaline, is available in outdoor and specialty retail stores (including Dick’s) across the country.
YogaSlacking involves the strength and meditation of yoga with the balance and athleticism of slacklining. This line is made for walking on or practicing yoga poses on its 1-inch width.
Ratchets have become a common piece of commercial slackline setups. This model from the YogaSlackers comes with no ratchets — the setup includes two oval carabiners, a line lock, and an anchor strap for creating strong tension.
This more minimal package is what the YogaSlackers use and prefer. It’s easy to setup with quick instruction, and the scaled-back kit — just webbing plus a few small parts — makes it much more transportable for the park, beach, or wilderness use.
It comes with tubular polyester webbing that is soft and strong, “allowing you to practice your yoga positions with ease and comfort,” the materials cite. (Not sure about the “ease” part! Yogaslacking is among the more difficult activities we have attempted.)
The new partnership should help the YogaSlackers further expand the sport and encourage more people to give slacklining and yogaslacking a try.
