If you’re ready to empty your wallet on a pair of pricey planks handmade in Switzerland, Heidiskis is calling your name. The roughly $1,500 skis (1,200 euros) are designed for alpine connoisseurs who want some of the best handmade skis money can buy.
With a white ash and Titanal metal core, as well as new sidecut dimensions, lengths and top-sheet designs, Heidiskis’ two models have received an overhaul for this season. The Swiss company, a boutique ski brand, mixes Swiss white ash with Titanal — a lightweight metal made primarily from aluminum — to give its skis flex as well as rigidity, the company says.
The Freeride and All Mountain ski models have one of the only full tip-to-tail wood cores on the market. That gives them better vibration dampening, a better response, and a longer life, Heidiskis touts.
For the skier who blows out a mass-produced ski every season — or someone who can’t find the exact right shape, flex and stability in a K2, Rossignol or Volkl — Heidiskis offers something different. The skis have a wide steel edge, P-Tex 4000 bases and unique top-sheet designs.
