Modeled after adult snowshoes — but with kid-friendly elements such as lighter weight, kid-sized bindings and narrower platforms — the MSR Shift snowshoes are new this winter. They take design elements from the company’s Denali Evo and add them to a shoe made for the 7- to 12-year-old set.
The Shifts have metal crampons and traction bars that run the length of the deck to provide ample grip. An injection-molded deck made of durable plastic provides enough flotation for preteens in deep snow.
With a weight limit of 125 pounds and three-strap bindings that fit shoe sizes from youth 3 to men’s size 8, parents won’t have to fret about kids outgrowing them too fast.
The MSR Shift snowshoes weigh 2lbs 7oz per pair and are 7 inches wide by 19.5 inches long. They’re currently available in black or light blue for $90. https://cascadedesigns.com/MSR
