Caption Contest: 'Put Yourself in his Boots'

We have a winner! Posted by “Joel,” in the spirit of the politically-charged month that we’re in here in the United States, we chuckled at the caption “I finally got away from all the election commercials!” Reader John Turner had an entertaining contribution, with a nod to the contest sponsor, with his “Take only pictures, leave only ‘Eccoprints’” caption. Reader Jon Cooper offered “Much better than the view from my cubicle.” There was the common sentiment — “Okay, one more time: Why is Iceland green and Greenland ice?” — from Robert Boyd. The high-latitude play by Jenny of “I can’t believe it’s midnight!”. And then, finally, from Jon Davis, a haiku: “Above fire and ice; I have tranquility, yet; Adventure awaits.” Thanks for all who submitted! Stay tuned next week as we roll out our third and final “Boot Up” contest.

Prizes: The reader with the most creative caption wins a pair of ECCO BIOM boots (men’s and women’s options), a V.I.O camera ($600 value), and a custom GearJunkie Buff. Good luck!

“These are my BOOTS. There are many like them, but these ones are mine.

My boots are my best friend. They are my life. I must master them as I must master my life. My boots, without me, are useless. Without my boots, I am useless. I must tie my boots tight. I must walk straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must conquer him before he conquers me. I will… My boots and myself know that what counts in this war is not the fires we start, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the memories that count. We will remember… My boots are human, even as I, because they are my life. Thus, I will learn them as a brother. I will learn their weaknesses, their strengths, their parts, their accessories, their laces and their sole. I will keep my boots clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will… Before God, I swear this creed. My boots and myself are the defenders of nature. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is man-kind’s and there is no enemy, but peace!”
