GJ presenting at Outdoor Adventure Expo
April 12, 2011, 3:42 pm
In addition to a canoe auction, The Banff Centre’s ‘Radical Reels Tour,’ 100+ exhibitors, and mucho gear for sale, GearJunkie will be present this weekend at the Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo in Minneapolis.
The expo, April 15 – 17, is a twice-a-year tradition for anyone outdoorsy in the Midwest. It’s free to get in, and there are more than 140 clinics, slideshows, presentations, and films. Speakers this year include climber Fred Beckey, backpacker superstar Andrew Skurka, ultra-light freaks Rod and Sharon Johnson, as well as GearJunkie’s own Stephen Regenold and T.C. Worley.
Regenold and Worley will present on the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, a weeklong endurance race in southern Chile that the pair raced and covered this year and in 2010. Here’s the full description from the Adventure Expo’s lineup. . .
“They call it ‘the last wild race,’ and each February a group of international adventurers travels to southern Chile in an attempt to complete what is one of the world’s toughest endurance events. At hundreds of miles in length, and traversing some of the deepest wilderness on Earth, the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race (WPER) includes trekking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and constant map and compass navigation on a checkpoint-based course. This year, GearJunkie.com’s Stephen Regenold traveled to Chile to compete in the event. Photographer T.C. Worley went along to document the race. After more than a week of nonstop racing, Regenold led Team GearJunkie.com to a second-place finish.”
This presentation will feature narrative by Regenold and a photo and video slideshow from Worley to reveal what it took to complete the WPER’s dramatic wilderness course. Bonus! At the end of the presentation, GearJunkie.com will hold a drawing and trivia contests to give away a handful of Wenger Swiss Army Knives to several lucky members of the audience. Must be present to win!
Event time and date is Sunday, April 17th, at 1:00pm, in the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Center Cowles Auditorium, which is adjacent to the big expo tent. Go here for all details: www.outdooradventureexpo.com. Hope to see you there!
