[leadin]Bike thieves are scum. But worse even than having a valuable bike stolen is losing an item with deep sentimental value.[/leadin]

That’s what happened to Jamie Bianchini after returning from a book reading this week. The tandem bike, named Edie, was the centerpiece of the 81-country Peace Pedalers expedition. It was also the bike upon which Bianchini met his wife.

The bike was stolen from a KOA campground in La Selva Beach, Calif., along with a Santa Cruz Tallboy LT and Black Sheep road bike. But the bike they really want back is this unique tandem that Bianchini rode through 81 countries alongside thousands of fellow cyclists.

On the Peace Pedalers expedition, Bianchini raised enough donations to provide 100 bikes to an impoverished township in Cape Town, dispersed hundreds of doses of life-saving malaria medication to small African communities, and started a school for AIDS orphans in Uganda, among other philanthropic efforts.

Please share this with as many people as possible in the hopes that the owner be reunited with the bike. Read on for more info as shared by Bianchini.

The last 24 hours have been some of the saddest hours of my life. After returning home from the last talk of the Family Book Tour I was devastated to find someone stole my beloved tandem bike Edie. She was the shining star of the 81-country Peace Pedalers expedition and the vehicle that I met my wife on in Argentina. She means so much to me. I have to find her and I need YOUR help. Please do as much of this as you can. Thanks!!

–SHARE THIS POST — there is ONLY ONE of this design like Edie in the USA so we if we get the word out big time she will find her way home. We’ve had bike thefts in Asia and Africa and both time the kindness of strangers prevailed–the bike was returned.

–Put up posters: Please print off the flyer and put a few up around where you live, even if it’s far from California. Stolen bikes move.
