From jumps to downhill to outright style, the Global Mountain Bike Network put three budget bikes to the ‘ultimate’ test.

No disc brakes, no carbon, and a whole lotta’ effort — what these bikes lack in specs they more than make up for in “character.” The challenge: Find an off-road-capable bike for under 100 “quid” — about $130. Then put it through a gauntlet of tests that would frustrate any mountain biker, including a grueling hill climb, downhill course, flow track with jumps, and more.

And to make things really interesting, the folks at GMBN wrangled a rigid bike, a hardtail, and a full-suspension bike for the challenge. It may not be scientific, but it sure is fun to watch.
