As its second foray into carbon fiber, Niner is launching its Air 9 carbon bike this spring. The Air 9 Carbon is a 2.8-pound (for a medium) 29er (29-inch-wheeled bike) with completely original components.
The company claims it’s the only carbon 29er in the world that can be run as either a single-speed or geared bike – there are non-carbon frames currently on the market that can as well. For added strength, the hardtail, designed for downhill, freeride and all-mountain use, incorporates alloy at key junctions like around the bottom bracket and head tube.
It has a hexagonal downtube made for strength and stiffness and the bottom bracket shell accepts CYA inserts for BB-30 and X-Type bottom brackets as well as fits Niner’s BioCentric bracket. The shifter cables are routed through the bike’s frame for a clean look.
The Air 9 Carbon frame, which comes in white or yellow-orange, will be available in April for $1,899. www.ninerbikes.com
