Given enough time and tools, any bike lock can be broken. At least this one will then make the thief vomit.

The Skunklock, raising funds on Indiegogo now, is a U-lock with a twist. The hardened medium-carbon steel lock contains a “pressurized chemical deterrent.”

When a bad guy cuts the lock, a blend of noxious chemicals sprays out of the breech. The stuff is so bad, according to the company, that it will “make thieves vomit when they try to steal your bike.”

Justice for bike thieves? You have our attention, Skunklock.

Skunklock Chemical Deterrent

Skunklock doesn’t reveal the blend of chemistry inside the lock, but does say multiple compounds will be made to adhere with state laws. One compound will contain capsaicin compounds — the same stuff used in bear spray — and one will leave those out due to local regulations.

The chemical deterrent is pressurized inside a hollow portion of the steel lock. The brand says it’s safe, and is only released when exposed by tools such as an angle grinder.

Beyond the chemical housed inside the lock, it’s a pretty standard design. It’s 5.1 inches wide by 9.3 inches long.

It sells now on Indiegogo, where you can get one and support the project for $109. Estimated shipping is June, 2017. As with all fund-raisers, there’s a level of risk for buyers.

But this one looks pretty darned cool. We’ve had plenty of bikes stolen, and while this won’t bring them back, ruining a thief’s day with this lock would satisfy a longing for justice.
