Team GearJunkie/WEDALI this week heads to the southeast U.S. on a 10-day adventure extravaganza. Their vehicle, the “Silver Bullet” RV, is hitched to a trailer of gear and towing our 6-person squad to the USARA Adventure Race National Championship (which starts today in Indiana), and then next weekend to the Checkpoint Tracker Championship in Tennessee.

Lined up at the RV, and the 2012 GearJunkie/WEDALI champion squad

Last year, our team won both of these events, becoming the first-ever “dual national champions” in the sport of adventure racing. It was quite a trip. The athletes this year hope to do it all over again and will be racing hard against the nation’s top teams in the back to back 24-hour+ events.

Wish us luck! Watch the site and our Facebook page for updates from the race venues this week.

Update, 10/05/13 — Despite a solid race, Team GearJunkie/WEDALI (squad No 1: Justin Bakken, Amy Oberbroeckling, Scott Erlandson) did not keep its trophy this weekend. The team raced for 25+ hours among a strong field and ended up in 9th place overall. Congrats to TECNU Adventure Racing, who took first place. Our squad races TECNU and other top teams again this coming weekend for a re-match in the Checkpoint Tracker Championships. Stay tuned!

USARA Champion Trophy gets passed around to new winner each year. Our squad has held it for the calendar years of 2010 and 2012… and we’re gunning for 2013 this weekend!
