I am a competitive cyclist, and I have been using Osmo’s products for several months now. Though my leg cramps haven’t disappeared, I have noticed changes — I go through less water and my cramping is milder.
Of the brand’s three products (Preload Hydration, Active Hydration, and Acute Recovery), my favorite is Preload. It is designed to help you retain liquids, and it does in my tests. (It has even put an end to my ritual pre-race need to pee!)
Osmo is made of the same stuff as a lot of drink mixes, including sucrose, glucose potassium citrate, citric acid, and so on. One scoop of the mix has 35 calories, 0 fat, 0 protein, 9 grams of carbs, 8 grams of sugar, and 160mg of sodium.
Cost is $20 to $30 for a jar (depending on type) with up to 40 servings. In short, it’s about average in price.
Osmo’s products are flavored with organic fruit. The taste — mild and a tad fruity, with a hint of salt — is somewhat acquired, but the lack of sugar is welcoming a couple bottles in during a long ride.
My cramps may never be solved, but I give props to Osmo for producing a product that strays away from our multitasking tendencies and keeps a singular focus on getting the body only what it needs for hydration to keep operating to its max.
