[leadin]Drone racing is already a thing, but with the launch of a “league,” it seems to be gaining legitimacy.[/leadin]
The Drone Racing League today dropped the above video, and it looks like a less dangerous version of Pod Racing from Star Wars. The “sport” is kind of a bend of Nascar speed and video game nerdery, with really fast drones whipping past obstacles while pilots control them via remote control.
The league calls it the “sport of the future,” with drone pilots becoming our next sports heroes. Seems like a stretch, but still, pretty cool.
We’re not sure how it will fit into the world of sports and gaming just yet, but it seems likely that with incredible advancements in drone technology it will be a rapidly growing niche for quite some time.
