This hour-long documentary chronicles a season in a community of heli-skiers in Haines, Alaska, and asks: “Is living the dream worth risking it all?”
During the filming of “The Alaskan Way,” ski guide and avalanche forecaster Rob Liberman and client Nick DoDov perished in an avalanche on March 13, 2012.
While there are some great ski scenes in this movie, it focuses on a course taught to those who wish to become heli guides and the risks of backcountry travel. It also addresses the concerns of the surrounding community and mix of cultures caused by the heli-ski industry.
The movie became free on Vimeo in November, but if you love it, please head over to the site and drop a few bucks in the tip jar. 10% of profits will be donated to Avalanche Education initiatives chosen by The Alaskan Way TV LLC. —Sean McCoy
