During a sprint attack on the final stage of the Giro D’Italia, Sonny Colbrelli clipped a spectator and flew over his handlebars as pursuers dodged the tumbling rider and his bike.
Colbrelli was throttling forward, head down, and drifted outside the white line marking the edge of the road. No one else was collected after he was flung into the street, and Colbrelli appeared to get up under his own power after Sunday’s accident.
Germany’s Nikias Arndt won the final stage, but the overall title went to Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali, his second Giro d’Italia win.
