Kaitlin Armstrong, the Austin, Texas, woman charged with murder in the death of cyclist ‘Mo’ Wilson, appeared in court for the first time Wednesday.
Kaitlin Marie Armstrong has pleaded “not guilty” to a first-degree murder charge in the May shooting death of Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson.
After a 43-day fugitive hunt ended in Costa Rica on June 29, officials extradited the 34-year-old to the United States. She awaited trial in Travis County (Texas) jail, where she arrived on July 5.
In Armstrong’s first court appearance on July 20, her attorney entered a plea of not guilty and asked for a speedy trial, per Austin’s KXAN.
“There is a big picture here. This is a beginning of a process that will play out in court and it should play out in court,” Rick Cofer, Armstrong’s attorney, said. Cofer agreed to make a statement after Wednesday’s hearing but reportedly did not answer questions that included why Armstrong fled the United States.
Per KXAN, Cofer and the rest of Armstrong’s legal team’s questions include why Austin Police officers “seemingly ignored a tip about the former boyfriend of Ms. Wilson,” fellow pro cyclist Colin Strickland.
Cofer also told media they’re seeking an answer to “who vandalized the home of Kaitlin Armstrong and Colin Strickland the night of Wilson’s death and why?”
Ultimately, Judge Brenda Kennedy set the docket call — a session held for the purpose of scheduling further activity — for Oct. 19. Kennedy also set a jury trial for the following week.
Armstrong also faces a theft of service charge, a class B misdemeanor. She allegedly did not pay for a Botox session in March 2018, and court records showed she faced a jail docket call on that case Wednesday morning before the hearing for her murder charge.
Armstrong remains in Travis County Jail, where officials hold her under a $3.5 million bond.
