Wheelie Control, Virtual Clutch, and Ready to Rip: Segway Shows Off Xaber 300 e-Moto at CES

Not self-balancing, but it does use the same gyro-tech to help you learn to wheelie. Segway's latest electric motorcycle should be a lot of fun.

Segway is once again showing off an electric motorcycle prototype at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. This time, though, it’s a model destined for production later this year.

The Segway Xaber 300 (pronounced “say-br”) is a small, electric, off-road motorcycle with a bunch of new tech. Segway says that it is inspired by the X1000 prototype, which it showed at CES last year, and subsequently entered into the non-competitive Future Mission 1000 class of the 2025 Dakar Rally.

Latest Segway e-Moto Details

The company is being very tight-lipped about the details of the Xaber 300, but here’s what we know so far.

On tap will be three selectable power modes. These are said to be the equivalent of 150cc, 200cc, and 300cc dirt bikes. Our best estimate is that there will be about 15-, 35-, and 40-horsepower modes available.

While we don’t yet know the e-moto’s weight or power numbers, Segway says that it will “boast a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 24.7 percent.” This suggests that the bike weighs around 160 pounds, but that is just an educated guess based on a 300cc-equivalent motorcycle’s 40 horsepower and the weight of other e-motos of similar size.

Helping bridge the riding experience gap with traditional dirt bikes is a “virtual electronic clutch.” Segway says this “will simulate a mechanical clutch to provide familiar performance for motorcycle enthusiasts in dynamic off-road scenarios.” We read that as the ability to fine-tune power output on the fly through a handlebar-mounted lever — essentially rider-actuated traction control.

Of course, there is also an app for this electric motorcycle. It will include controls for limiting maximum speed and geo-fencing the bike.

But, likely the most fun feature is the ability to set the maximum wheelie angle. This should help riders learn wheelies progressively and with less risk of big crashes. It is a clever application of the gyroscopic sensor technology that Segway has developed through its experience with self-balancing mobility solutions.
