Cruising around the U.S. in a luxury RV, covering thousands of miles, and visiting some of the country’s most iconic destinations sounds like a dream road trip. But if you apply for Outdoorsy’s America’s Best Summer Job and get hired, you could paid $20,000 to do all of that.
Outdoorsy, an RV rental marketplace, posted the position on its website in March. However, it has extended the application deadline to May 31. So, if you haven’t applied yet and think you have the chops for the job, it isn’t too late. You can still throw your name in the hat.
“We’ve been blown away by the response from candidates for America’s Best Summer Job. And we’ve heard a lot of amazing personal stories,” Outdoorsy Co-Founder Jennifer Young said in a press release. “It’s going to be legitimately challenging to pick the best finalists and winners. So we really need Americans to get involved and vote for their favorites to help us decide.”
The contest is open to any American individual or couple between 18 and older. Submit a short (60-90-second) video describing why you should be the person to take on this epic mission. The public will vote through Outdoorsy social media posts on who its favorite candidate is. Six finalists will be chosen from the entrants, and then, on June 21, 2024, Outdoorsy will announce the winner.
Roadtrip of a Lifetime, America’s Best Job
The selected winner of the video contest and lucky new hire will embark on a 30-day journey across the U.S. this summer. Outdoorsy will outfit them in an RV of their choice before they set off on their great adventure. According to Outdoorsy, the trip will cover 30,000 miles and hit 10 national parks along the way. A stipend for food and travel expenses will cover on-the-road costs.
On top of the stipend, the winner will also get paid $20,000. For just 30 days of work, that breaks down to about $150 an hour. Which makes this one of the best-paid temporary jobs in the country.
But the lucky winner has deliverables they’ll have to bring to the table as well. During the journey, they’ll be required to make an active blog or vlog documenting their road trip, its highlights, challenges, ups, and downs.
Depending on the availability of the winner, the trip will take place in either July or August 2024.
America’s Best Summer Job Video Contest: What Does It Take to Win?
According to Outdoorsy, the grand winner of the America’s Best Summer Job Video Contest will be selected based on four qualities. They will be judged by their video interview (40%) and on their creativity (20%), technical ability (20%), and “X-factor” (20%).
Following the application closure on May 31 and before the six finalists are announced by Outdoorsy on June 12, applicants will need to rally their friends and family. The six applicants with the highest number of votes on the Outdoorsy contest webpage will be the finalists. Those six people will have until June 21 to muster even more votes and support through their own social media channels and other creative outlets.
