Dolphin Research in the Osa Peninsula — With only 10 local families, Rincon appears to be a quaint and charming little village. If you venture off the dirt road and into the backyards of the neighbors, you will find wild, primary forests rich with biodiversity and wildlife — and in their front yards, the deep blue waters of the Gulfo Dulce.
David, the local biologist that Chill Expeditions works closely with, describes the dolphins as his neighbors. They were always there for him, and as an adult he thought it was time to return the favor and preserve their home.
As you venture into the Gulf by boat, dolphins (pods of 50 at a time!) jump alongside you, close enough to touch. On the trip David explains their habitat, food, behavior, and threats to their life. Then you enjoy lunch on a gorgeous remote beach, where you get the chance to snorkel and explore the dolphins’ habitat and the magnificent underwater world.
Return to the eco-lodge built by David’s father and brother, and process the amazing information from your day of research in the field. Top it off with a delicious meal cooked by his mom, created from food harvested from their garden for a complete Costa Rican “eco-immersion” kind of day!
