“Black people don’t climb” and “we don’t do this” are phrases Brothers of Climbing hear all the time.

But “you can do this,” is how the group responds to prospective climbers from underrepresented communities.

REI’s film, Brothers Of Climbing, shows New York City climbers taking on the climbing community from a unique perspective.

The film tells of its conception and ultimate path towards a group trip to Chattanooga. Throughout the film, members tell of their experiences entering the climbing community and forming one of their own.

Brothers Of Climbing Meet Up

Founders Mikhail Martin and David Glace regularly meet at the original Brooklyn Boulders gym. From humble beginnings, the group now hosts more than 30 climbers in monthly meetings.
