With Canon’s new 3-ounce waterproof camera, you can capture photos and videos on almost any adventure.

Canon makes some great cameras. But for hardcore adventurers, large, expensive cameras don’t make much sense. The bulky things can’t make it everywhere you can.

After a successful Indiegogo campaign earlier this year, Canon is ready to launch a miniature adventure camera later this month. Introducing the IVY REC, a “clippable” outdoor camera built into a carabiner.

“Great for the outdoors, the clippable and wearable design allows users to wear it on a belt or bag, and the clip doubles as a viewfinder — eliminating the potential to crack a screen,” Canon said in a press release.

The main perk to this slim camera is its ruggedness. It’s waterproof and shockproof for up to 30 minutes at more than 6 feet underwater. It can also operate at temperatures down to 14 degrees or up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

So, basically, it won’t survive a drop off a cliff, but it will withstand random adventures and general wear and tear.

(We should note that the waterproof test was only conducted in fresh water, so test this feature in salt water at your own risk.)

The camera also marks a huge improvement over other point-and-shoots on the market, as it weighs only 90 g, can shoot both photo and video, and has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

IVY REC Camera Specs

The camera itself has a simple 13-megapixel CMOS digital sensor that can shoot HD video at 1080p up to 60 frames per second. The IVY REC camera runs on a 3.8V lithium-polymer battery and can last 2 hours on a full charge. The carabiner camera even has a tripod mount, strap lug, and micro-SD card slot.

Based on the product campaign, photos, and press release, Canon is definitely marketing this new product to the younger generation. The IVY REC will come in trendy colors like Riptide, Avocado, and Dragonfruit.

Canon’s mini camera can be paired with the Canon Mini Cam app to transfer and edit photos (although you’ll need both Bluetooth and a Wi-Fi connection to do so). You can even use the app on your phone as a remote timer for the camera.

The IVY REC will retail for $130. Preorder or learn more about the carabiner camera here.
