In this episode, Townsend brings us humor, insights on an iconic northwest mountain, and some unreal ski footage.

Nearly halfway through his feat of completing 50 classic ski descents, Townsend takes on a crazy line. Along with two other professional skiers in this episode, he climbs and descends Mt. Shuksan in Washington state.

There’s no perfect run on this mountain — there are more than a couple popular, classic lines. Townsend chooses to ski a line on the mountain’s steep Northwest Couloir.

They climb to the very top, and it’s over 3,000 vertical feet of skiing. Like many of Townsend’s epic descents, changes in the conditions call everything into question.

“Hammered. Crazy. Pucker factor 100,” the skiers remark, looking down the steep chute. “It may not be as rip-able as we thought.” What lies ahead? Watch and you’ll see what we mean when we say it may be his best line so far.
