Tim Long’s sales post continues:
“To authenticate the buckle (and enabling you to show further evidence of your race), we’re including ibuprofen, a nasty chocolate gel, a personal size Body Glide, a Pocahontas nipple BandAid, a La Sportiva sticker for your car (to show you mean business to people on the road), and, as a special add-on, a personally signed copy of my race report from the Leadville race, AND a signed copy of my guide: “How to Run the Leadville 100”.
“Added bonus! If the bidding goes above $100 (which it already has), you will also receive the Leadville 100 mile MTB buckle from my 9:49 finish this year. Double up on the accolades from two sports!”
I hope that the buyer is someone who just collects interesting buckles, not a potential fraud. Because if one genuinely cares about the sport, they’ll earn it the hard way.
Then, like the vast majority of people who finish ultras, store the buckle away and let the dust collect, because the experience, not the award, is what it’s all about.
