Brooks Transcend, $160— A beefy shoe from a major brand, the Brooks Transcend is the most cushioned shoe ever made by the company.

We were on scene for the Transcend release event earlier this summer in Salt Lake City. In hand, the shoe is not as noticeably thick as the Hokas or others in the lineup here, though there’s still mucho cushion underfoot.

The Transcends have a stack height of 24mm in the heel and 16mm in the forefoot. They have a heftier sole than anything else we’ve seen from the mainstream running-shoe brands. Brooks claims the Transcend gives the softest ride or “float” of any shoe it makes.
