Altra Olympus, $130 — Named after the popular Salt Lake City mountain near Altra’s Utah headquarters, the Olympus is a maximum-cushion shoe that stands out from others because of its zero-drop sole.

The stack height is 32mm in the heel and forefoot. The platform your foot sits on is flat, no angle from the heel to the toes like most models.

Altra touts its design gives the shoe a neutral feel while still providing cushioning to soak in the bumps. To make them extra tough, a stone guard keeps toes protected from sharp rocks along the trail.
