[leadin]For 16 days spread throughout the summer, the National Park System is offering no-charge admissions, tours, and vehicle entrance permits.[/leadin]
In celebration of the 100th year of the National Park System (NPS) and to encourage everyone to get out to any of the more than 400 parks across the country, all national parks will offer free admission on the following dates, which begin April 16:
- April 16 through 24: National Park Week
- August 25 through 28: National Park Service Birthday
- September 24: National Public Lands Day
- November 11: Veterans Day
It’s all part of the “16 Days In ’16” program (the first day was Martin Luther King Day, January 18). While many parks are always free to enter, this offer is an outstanding deal for the 127 parks that charge admission – Yellowstone and Glacier National Park being among the best deals.
While there will be no charge for admission, commercial tours, or transportation entrance, fees will still be in effect for reservations, camping, tours, and concessions.
Regular entrance to national parks can range anywhere from zero to $30 with a vehicle – less for bicycles and those entering on foot. This is a perfect opportunity for families in particular to plan an affordable weekend getaway for an experience that lasts a lifetime.
