Here’s a bit of fitness inspiration for the day: A 62-year-old man just broke the Guinness World Record for planking.

Planking is a great core exercise, but one man has taken it to the extreme. Last week, 62-year-old former Marine George Hood held a plank for over 8 hours. To train, Hood held the post for 4-5 hours a day and also incorporated a ton of squats and pushups into his daily routine.

What’s even more impressive is that Hood has broken the record for the longest plank before: in 2011 when he held it for 1 hour and 20 minutes. And in 9 years, the record more than quadrupled.

We’re not saying you need to plank for hours on end. But if you’re looking for a way to improve your core strength, planking is a great way to go.

In this video, runner and sports rehab specialist James Dunne gives us some pro tips on how to plank longer. So if do you ever decide to take on Hood’s record, you’ll be ready.
