Doing everything — including running — more mindfully is something lots of athletes chase. The Run Mindful app could help them do just that.
The Run Mindful app is the brainchild of professional ultrarunner Timothy Allen Olson. He’s a two-time Western States 100-Mile race winner. He’s also a dad, mountain man, and daily meditator.
Run Mindful is an app for athletes who want to dabble in moving with more intention. If you can’t attend one of Olson’s Boulder-based Adventure Mindful running retreats, this app packages some of that content for $3.99 per month.
Runners can use the guided audio meditations off the trail to ponder pre-race or relax post-run. Those more accustomed to listening to music on the trail can stream the series on a training or fun run.
‘Run Mindful’ App Streams Zen Moments
Run Mindful content covers a lot of the meditation basics like learning to live — and move — from a place of gratitude. There’s a practice to “body scan,” which can help physically and mentally tense athletes relax from head to toe.
Some talks focus on calming breathing patterns that work specifically for running. There are also sessions that stream nothingness: periods of complete silence for contemplation.
The Run Mindful app lets athletes roll however they like. And that’s the appeal. Subscribers simply tune into Olson’s carefully coached mindfulness moments.
He doesn’t care if you use it at work or play. As Olson’s Instagram profile suggests, he’s just “aiming to live consciously while running mountains and letting my heart shine free.” It’s hard not to pay for a little dose of that.
The Run Mindful app is currently available for iOS only at $3.99/month. Or, buy a six- or 12-month subscription with a one-time payment for even less.
