High Camp Trailer

Teardrop trailers have surged in popularity recently. Light enough to tow behind a six-cylinder car, they give people a mid-ground between sleeping on the ground and full-blown RVs.

This model, made in Portland, Ore., by High Camp Trailers, is a tow-behind abode that has the sleek lines of a Jetstream. The company claims high-end CNC milling for a precision build, including domestic wood interior.

With a total footprint of 7-feet (outside of fender-to-outside of fender) by 12-feet, the trailer is small enough to easily tow behind a truck or SUV. Just 5 1/2 feet tall from the ground to the roof and weighing 1,250 pounds, it’s like towing a small boat on a trailer.

Open it up and you’ve got plenty of living space for two. Designed around the dimensions of a standard queen-sized bed (80 inches long x 60 inches wide) and with 40 inches of headroom, the company claims a “feeling of spaciousness” whether lying or sitting.

Cooking is done out back, in an open-air galley with a cooler and stove.

Each trailer comes outfitted with:

  • Stainless Coleman cooler
  • Stainless 3-burner cooktop
  • Electric brakes
  • Ikea Queen quilt-top mattress
  • Variable speed Fantastic vent
  • Large capacity deep cycle battery

High Camp Trailers are made one at a time and have a variety of add-ons. For the standard-equipped model, a price tag of $15,895 will have one hitched to your truck. Plan to wait a couple months for your build to be complete, with pick up in the Portland area or pay to have it shipped.

We haven’t seen these yet in person, and they are pretty pricey, but we’d love to spend a weekend getting well acquainted.
