Not into racing? Don’t worry, LeMond Bicycles now makes e-bikes for daily riders.

Possibly the greatest American cyclist of all time, three-time Tour De France winner Greg LeMond founded his eponymous bike brand in 1990. Thirty years later, LeMond Bikes is hustling into the e-bike space.

This week, LeMond Bicycles announced its newest products: two full carbon fiber e-bike models. But these aren’t just new bikes; the announcement also signals the rebirth of a brand that hadn’t released a frame with its name on it since 2013. And today, LeMond shifts from a racing-focused brand to more commuter-friendly, if still performance-minded, bicycles.

“To say we are excited is an understatement, as we’ve been working behind the scenes for many years to meld our knowledge of bikes and the bike market with our carbon fiber technology,” said Greg LeMond, founder and chairman of the board at the brand. “A novelty just a few years back, today e-bikes are a rapidly growing market segment, changing how we live, commute, recreate, and enjoy our surroundings.”

The e-bikes have carbon frames, seatposts, and barstems; integrated motors with pedal assist up to 16 mph; a battery and lighting system; and a whole lot of colorful LeMond style.

Both LeMond e-bike models, the Dutch and Daily, share similar performance specs, with the key differentiator being the frame style. The Daily sports the classic, diamond-frame design while the Dutch offers a more old-style step-through frame.

Both carry a $4,500 price tag, 46-mile range, and 250Wh integrated battery (with optional extended-range external battery add-on).

Daily

With a minimalist style, the LeMond Daily e-bike is fast and comparably lightweight at under 27 pounds. The Daily has a MAHLE e-bike motor, a Shimano GRX Hydraulic drivetrain, carbon wheelset, Panaracer GravelKing tires, and an included bell.

Upgrades for the Daily will be available, with add-ons like a LeMond carbon fiber wheelset or Shimano Di2 electronic-shifting drivetrain.

Dutch

In a classic Dutch style, the LeMond Dutch e-bike has a sleek step-through frame and sloped handlebars. The Dutch will come in four bold colors, while the Daily e-bike will come in two.

Both e-bike models are city-style, geared toward casual riders and daily commuters. However, LeMond also has some new road bike models in the works for later this fall. Check here for updates on new e-bike models from LeMond.

“The bikes are just the starting line. For the past 5 years, we have been driving toward developing a vertically integrated carbon fiber platform,” said Geoffrey LeMond, chief strategy officer. “For now, we will be rolling out new bike and e-bike models inspired by the era of racing when my dad was winning his tours.”
