Always wanted to live in a ‘nonconventional’ home? Airbnb’s Unique Fund is here to help make your dreams come true.
Floating house, pioneer wagon, treehouse nest: Do these sound like something you’ve always wanted to build or live in? This weekend, Airbnb announced its Unique Fund to help people do just that — design and build a house as crazy as your imagination.
“We’re giving 10 people $100,000 each to build the most unconventional Airbnb they can dream up,” the home-sharing platform announced. “Whether it’s a new idea or a restoration plan, send us your pitch and tell us why you believe it belongs in the world.”
A design for your space can be unique in terms of the shape, location, or function. Or as Airbnb puts it, the wilder the better. (As long as it meets the $100,000 budget.)
How It Works
The “unconventional” homes must meet certain criteria: They push the boundaries in terms of creativity and the idea of what makes a home. Essentially, design something wacky, awesome, or weird, and enter the contest. If you’re chosen, Airbnb will help make your dream a reality.
Contest winners’ designs are judged on qualities like creativity, feasibility, sustainability, and social good. Entries must be received by April 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
The $100,000 prize (minus tax) is for designing, remodeling, or constructing the space and may not be used for any other purposes. Contest winners are required to make their unique spaces available on Airbnb. Winners must be able to complete projects by December 2020.
