Forty-thousand signatures, 7,500 miles, and one bright-yellow RV. KEEN’s cross-country “Live Monumental” campaign to defend over 3 million acres drew to a close and the 18-minute film that captured it is now available online for the first time.

The “Live Monumental” project, launched in 2015, sought to create federally protected designations for five target wild lands: Owyhee Canyonlands in Oregon, Birthplace of Rivers in West Virginia, Nevada’s Gold Butte, Boulder-White Clouds in Idaho, and the Mojave Trails of California.

Thanks to its efforts zig-zagging across the country to collect signatures and deliver them to Capitol Hill, Boulder-White Clouds and the Mojave Trails were designated a protected Wilderness and National Monument, respectively.

‘Live Monumental’ Film Tour

This year, the campaign took the “Live Monumental” mini-film on tour as part of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival that premiered on April 22nd in San Francisco, and wrapped up at the end of July. GearJunkie’s Erik Nelson served as Director and Editor of the film.

The film will also be screened on 90 college campuses throughout September as part of the Outdoor Foundation’s Campus Challenge.
