OutDoor by ISPO Canceled Over Coronavirus Concerns

Europe’s premier outdoor trade show will not take place in 2020.

OutDoor by ISPO, Europe’s massive outdoor industry trade show, has been canceled as fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc around the world.

“Under these circumstances, it is not reasonable to go ahead with OutDoor by ISPO as scheduled — for health and economic reasons,” said Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe Munchen, which oversees OutDoor by ISPO. “We are now looking ahead and working together with the industry to organize a successful OutDoor by ISPO 2021.”

The annual trade show, held in Munich, Germany, welcomes more than 22,000 attendees from about 90 countries. It often sets the stage for America’s Outdoor Retailer trade show and offers a peek at both gear that’s yet to hit the U.S. market and products Americans may never see.

This year’s show was set to take place from June 28 to July 1. But after consulting with the Bavarian State Government, health officials, and the European Outdoor Group trade association, show organizers made the decision to cancel this year’s event. Instead, brands and attendees will look ahead to next year’s show, June 20-23, 2021.

“The coronavirus pandemic has put many things into perspective and reminds us what really matters,” OutDoor by ISPO project manager Markus Hefter said in a statement.
