Frightening video shows park visitors fleeing a charging bison before it strikes and flings a young girl several feet into the air.

A 9-year-old girl from Odessa, Florida, was treated and released by Yellowstone emergency medical staff after a bull bison “charged and tossed” her into the air Tuesday, park officials confirmed.

According to authorities, the incident occurred near Observation Point Trail in the Old Faithful Geyser area. Approximately 50 people were within 5-10 feet of the bull bison “for at least 20 minutes before eventually causing the bison to charge the group,” witnesses told park officials.

Onlookers caught the incident on camera. Be advised, the video captures the bison striking the young girl and sending her cartwheeling through the air.

Park medical staff first assessed and treated the girl at Old Faithful Lodge. She was later transported to and released from Old Faithful Clinic.

Park authorities said they are investigating the incident but have issued no citations at this time. After the incident, Yellowstone staff issued a notice reminding park visitors to maintain safe distances from wildlife. Stay at least 75 feet away from all large animals like bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes. And observe bears and wolves from at least 300 feet away.
