Watch as an actual hidden forest with some of the oldest trees on Earth is revealed. And you can visit.
Outbound Collective’s most recent short film features a group of outdoor leaders on their quest to explore a unique and unknown forest of trees.
“For years, there were whispers of a hidden grove nestled in the hills about California’s Sonoma coast,” a narrator teases.
The grove they’re talking about comprises more than 700 acres of old-growth redwood trees — trees that have stood for centuries. Some even date back before the fall of the Roman Empire.
The Save the Redwoods League purchased the land to both protect it as well as share it with the public through recreation. “Here We Stand” follows a group of outdoor advocates and leaders of color as they become the first people to explore the grove.
Land is part of all of our identities, and certain identities are overlooked so often in outdoor spaces. It’s about equity. It’s about community.
If we can learn anything from the redwoods, it’s that we need to support one another and stand together if we want to survive.
