From event-winning bikes to factory overages, Red Truck sells pros’ and brands’ excess gear at a discount. And every purchase benefits a charitable cause.
It can be a real pain finding quality gear online for a fair price. Craigslist, eBay, even niche marketplaces like The Pro’s Closet and Midwest Velo Swap – they all have hit-or-miss inventory. And, too often, sellers are hard to reach.
But Red Truck aims to change that. Though live now, the site will launch its grand opening at next month’s Canyon Belgian Waffle Ride and Sea Otter Classic in California.
Founded by former Nike product developer Michael Bergmann, Red Truck lets brands monetize old products and helps athletes raise awareness and funds for its preferred charities. And for the rest of us, it provides a high-end online shop for performance and collectible gear.
Red Truck: ‘Gear That Gives Back’
Connecting everyday people with athletes and charities is awesome. Though Red Truck currently has a road cycling focus, the brand expects that to expand following its West Coast launch.
We spoke with Red Truck communications manager Jeannette Faber, who told us the brand aims to expand its platform to other disciplines as it grows.
“Road cycling is just the start,” Faber told us. “Because that’s what we know.”
Faber confirmed the brand aims to have mountain bike gear within a month and is already in conversations to procure golf, surf, tennis, and winter sports gear.
Regardless, right now Red Truck has a wealth of performance-oriented – and some beginner-friendly – bikes and gear. So far, its brand partners include Masi, BH Bikes USA, Del Sol, and Mercury Wheels. And Red Truck also partnered with national bike team Monster Media Racing.
Best of all, everything sold by Red Truck benefits a cause. Heading into its launch, Red Truck lists 12 charitable partners that receive money from its sales. The Children’s Cancer Association, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and Bikes for Kids are just a few.
In addition, Red Truck has has a number of brand ambassadors throughout pro cycling. Right now, it has two professionally ridden bikes for sale.
And the women’s model is a custom carbon Unovelo TT (52 cm) that Kathryn Bertine set personal records with during the 2015 UCI TT World Championships, UCI Team Time Trial World Championships, Caribbean Championships, and Tour of the Gila in New Mexico.
Red Truck also sells new wheelsets and framesets direct from the brand. So if your gear closet needs to catch up with your training, check out Red Truck. It’s a chance to simultaneously ride great gear at a solid price and help a worthy cause.
