The Jackfish “survival wallet” is like no other billfold we’ve seen. The company calls it “an indestructible super slim card holder containing essential everyday tools.”
It’s stocked with survival bits and pieces, but pretty short on the features many people consider important in a traditional wallet — it carries four cards but has nowhere to stow cash or your honey’s picture.
What it lacks in urban efficiency it makes up for in survival trinketry. It contains:
Everyday Tools
- Micro screwdriver; flat head 0.8mm tip (ideal for glasses)
- Titanium-coated Pozi drive standard hex bit (hex slot on side of jackfish)
- Titanium coated flat head standard hex bit (5mm width)
- Micro SD card holder to carry copies of documents
- Telescopic Pen (opens to 118mm in length; 3 refills included) + cap
Survival Tools
- Aluminum Whistle (120 Decibel)
- Glass Vial (holds 10 drops of iodine to treat water — ships empty)
- Windproof match (burn for 5 seconds in the harshest of wind, includes striker)
- Firesteel 4.5mm wide (light a fire when everything else is wet)
- Spyderco Bug Knife (very sharp – 3Cr13MoV stainless steel)
- Liquid-filled button compass (15mm diameter)
The Jackfish was funded on Kickstarter in December, and you can pre-order one now for about $100. If you read this too late to pre-order, it is expected to be in shops later this summer.
While a feat of compartmentalization, like many survival products, we doubt anyone will be breaking out a Jackfish in a time of serious wilderness need. Overall, this thing is kind of silly, and probably a bit overpriced if you break down each component, but it is also kind of awesome.
The Jackfish is available in aluminum or more expensive titanium, and both look pretty slick.
You’ll need to find a new way to carry your cash and receipts, but the Jackfish will organize some cool EDC essentials in your pocket for whatever unforeseen circumstances may arise.
