A new project by Jaunt and Camp4 Collective follows four adventurers on their home turf.

The first video, released this week, features renowned free-solo climber Alex Honnold as he ascends peaks in the Needles of southern California.

Check out the video below, where you can click and drag the screen to change your perspective, all while Honnold tells you about exploring one of his favorite climbing spots.

The imagery and storytelling of this emerging technology is put to great use in this project, and we look forward to the release of the next episodes featuring mountain biker Cam Zink, kayaker Galen Volckhausen, and slackliner Andy Lewis.

Footage Offers ‘Virtual Outdoors’

The project is made possible by the use of 360-degree cameras, special software, and applications that enable the cinematic-looking VR. You can indeed get vertigo just by “looking down” at points throughout the short film.
