You know Shimano for its bike components. Today, the brand announced entry into the camera market.
The company’s CM-1000 POV Camera is smaller than a GoPro and has a new kind of form factor. Most of its specs are industry standard, but one stand-out is its bright, highly-sensitive (F2.0 aperture) lens.
It comes to market in May for $299. The company is marketing it to cyclists as well as fishermen. (Shimano is a major fishing gear brand as well as bike.)
The unit captures 1080p HD video and has varying lens modes — you can shoot at 135° or in a “super wide” 180° mode.
It’s waterproof without a case to 30 feet under.
At just 86 grams, the Shimano shooter is among the lightest cameras of its kind. At 44 × 70 × 30mm, the company notes it’s about the size of a deck of cards.
