Have you ever watched an epic trailer to a climbing film only to see the full version costs $8.99, deterring you from watching the whole thing? Enter Slipstream, a streaming site curated for those who love the outdoors.

A group of Vancouver creatives and skiers saw a gap in streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Vimeo, specifically for outdoors films. They have amassed hundreds of movies, and new videos are added weekly, many of which are unavailable in full on the major streaming sites.

The total cost is $5 a month, for unlimited access to Slipstream’s library on your TV, phone, or computer.

Slipstream: Curated Action Sports Stories

The team at Slipstream wants to cater to filmmakers and viewers alike. They pick story-driven, narrative films that inspire outdoors adventure. Of course, no adventure film is complete without jaw-dropping cinematic quality and high-stakes objectives.

The five bucks you fork over monthly helps the content creators, too. Slipstream allocates 70 percent of all monthly revenues back to the filmmakers.

So you can sit back and watch movies knowing your investment is not entirely self-centered.

How it works: Slipstream

Log into Slipstream and rows of themed films appear on-screen. Categories like “Intense Climbing Journeys,” “Pow Hunters,” and “Inspiration To Escape” house dozens of films to scroll through.

Slipstream invites professionals to curate lists on the site, providing more niche categories. Climber Hazel Findlay, snowboarder Xavier de le Rue, and author Brandon Leonard all have their own picks for you to peruse.

Slipstream Drawbacks

For many, Netflix works fine enough. And Vimeo has some amazing short films. But for those who dive deep into feature-length skiing films or climbing films that otherwise require buying the movie, Slipstream is a solid option.

Upon first browsing through the categories, numerous films (Wide Boyz II, Backyards Project) jumped out at me that I previously neglected because of a hefty price tag.

There also isn’t currently a search tool. The company wants to encourage browsing before they implement one. The feature is in the works, though.
