The Ruffwear Adventure Dog (RAD) adoption program, now in its final year, matches outdoorsy dogs with adventure-seeking owners with the help of the Best Friends Animal Society. There are no adoption costs and the dog travels free to the lucky owner’s home.

The program matches high-energy dogs, ideally suited for outdoor adventures, with applicants by featuring two adoptable pups on the Ruffwear Facebook page every other month. Prospective owners can also apply through the Best Friends website.

While the program is slated to close next spring, Ruffwear hinted that the programs’ success – 34 dogs have secured homes since the launch – could merit an extension.

RAD eligible dogs were on display at the GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, Colo.

“As with all partnerships, there is an agreed-upon timeframe, two years in this case,” said Susan Strible, Director of Marketing at Ruffwear. “I would imagine, with the tremendous success we’ve had thus far, discussions to renew the agreement will be forthcoming.”

RAD will also bring some adoptable dogs to the the summer Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City this August.
