Paved MTB: Urban Bike Park Offers Obstacles, Builds Skills

The Peppermint Bike Park, built in the density of Bangkok, includes wood bridges, berms, and elevated sections, wavy pavement, lights for night biking, clean delineating paint lanes, and the overall look of a kid’s matchbox car race track.

We’ve covered indoor mountain biking as well as singletrack for biking in caves. This month a new kind of mountain bike park opened in Thailand.

It opened last week, on May 9, financed by Peppermint Field, which makes gels and balms in Thailand.

The company’s marketing director is a big cycling advocate, and he concepted the bike park as a place where Bangkok’s urban cycling community “could ride safely while developing necessary skills” for mountain biking.

The trail layout has two paths, one paved and the other wood bridges and berms.

They are just 1 kilometer long, but the park encourages laps and skill-building on the obstacles and iterations of the trails.

Road bikes are not allowed. The park was created to encourage people to learn to mountain bike.

It’s open day and night, including lighted paths and sessions until 10pm.
