Mountainsmith Lariat 65
August 21, 2009, 11:44 am / Categories: Packs
When one pack isn’t enough to carry, you can carry two with the Mountainsmith Lariat 65. The “all-terrain” backpacking bag — designed for people who carry heavy loads and want a feature-rich pack — has a detachable 7.5-liter “summit pack” that rides piggyback to the main bag. Combined, the five-pound duo can hold up to 75.5 liters (4,607 cubic inches) of gear, according to the company.
It has bells and whistles including a hydration sleeve and bite valve catch, safety whistle, numerous zippered pockets, A-frame ski carry straps, front-panel snowboard carry straps, and ice axe loops. If you don’t pack light for wilderness trips — and don’t care about a hefty pack that has tons of features — it’s worth giving the Lariat 65 a look. The pack will be available for $199 starting in January. www.mountainsmith.com
