New Belgium Brewing and Patagonia Inc. have collaborated on a beer. The brew, called California Route, is a limited-release organic lager.

It’s described as a yeasty beer with “subtle fruity esters and a refreshing light lager finish.” The beer is brewed with certified organic ingredients.

The beer name — “California Route” — is a nod to Mount Fitz Roy in Patagonia and a route of that name first climbed in 1968 by Yvon Chouinard, Doug Tompkins, Dick Dorworth, Lito Tejada-Flores and Chris Jones.

Said a company announcement, “For 40 years, Patagonia has led the way in developing outdoor gear and in environmental responsibility. To toast the company’s accomplishments, New Belgium partnered with Patagonia to create California Route.”

Sold in 12-ounce cans, the Pata-beer will soon be in stores in Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Boulder, Denver, Boston, NYC, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Cardiff and Ventura, Calif., where Patagonia is based.
