After a two-week trial, Kaitlin Armstrong has received a 90-year prison sentence for the murder of young cyclist Moriah “Mo” Wilson, according to news reports.
The jury deliberated for three-and-a-half hours on Friday before reaching their decision, ABC News reported. Armstrong’s sentence comes a day after a jury found her guilty of murder. Multiple outlets reported that the jury deliberated for two hours before convicting the Austin, Texas, yoga instructor of shooting Wilson to death in an Austin apartment on May 11, 2022.
Armstrong’s murder charge carried a potential sentence of 99 years, and prosecutor Guillermo Gonzalez asked the jury Friday to consider a minimum sentence of 40 years, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Throughout the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that suggested Armstrong killed Wilson out of jealousy for her relationship with Armstrong’s on-and-off boyfriend, professional cyclist Colin Strickland. A combination of cellphone evidence, security camera footage, and testimony from Armstrong’s friends suggested she committed a calculated murder, Gonzales said Friday.
