This week saw some big-name brands dropping hot new gear: HOKA released a trail runner, Evolv put out a performance climbing shoe, and Patagonia announced a tougher version of its bestselling jacket.

Celebrity inspiration was also on full display: Zendaya worked with On to design a new shoe and apparel collection, and Simms released fishing gear inspired by the OG jam band, the Grateful Dead. Check out this week’s Emerging Gear for more.

HOKA designed its new Mafate 5 ($185) for trail runners who put in serious miles on tough trails. It’s “a very protective trail running shoe that is excellent on moderately technical trails,” GJ Editorial Director Sean McCoy wrote in our first look at the new kicks.

The brand describes the shoe as “gnarly,” with Vibram Megagrip traction lugs for maximum traction. The knit upper is designed for durability. HOKA added an anti-fray treatment to reinforce this part of the shoe. Soft foam on the underfoot adds support, while impact-absorbing foam near the sole cushions feet during rough descents.

HOKA also rethought the structure of its trail runners with the Mafate 5. The new rocker design places a plate between foam layers. It’s also the first model to have the option to add gaiters for even more protection from trail debris.

Sharge Retractable 3-in-1 Power Bank

Sharge has done the near impossible — make a power bank that is not only functional, but looks really freaking cool. Its new 3-in-1 device ($50), with a design inspired by a vintage record player, is both sleek and nostalgic at the same time.

It also solves a common problem with most power banks: The need to bring along your own cord, which can get tangled or misplaced in your bag. This model has a retractable USB-C charging cable, along with a 10,000mAh power bank and a 30W wall charger.

The design adds versatility; you can recharge the power bank via the wall plug or via USB-C. And it delivers on function too, with the ability to bring your iPhone from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes.

Awake x BRABUS Jetboard

Sometimes products featured in Emerging Gear look like they come from the distant future, and the new jetboard drop from Awake is one of those products. The cutting-edge Shadow Explore electric surfboard ($18,300) comes from a collab between BRABUS and Awake.

It can go up to 34 mph, so you can catch some serious speed out on the water.

Users control the board with a hand-remote. If they push the BRABUS button, they’ll get an extra boost of acceleration. The carbon fiber design adds durability, while the textured deckpad gives users grip and traction.

It’s not just high-tech: this board is also more user-friendly, according to the brand. The fins and wide hull design add extra stability so you can traverse the water with confidence.

Patagonia Hi-Loft Nano Puff Hoody

Patagonia’s Nano Puff Hoody is a stellar outer layer for the shoulder seasons (every time we review it, it earns high marks). But for all the Nano Puff’s selling points, it isn’t the warmest jacket. Once winter fully hits, we need something more substantial, and now we’ve got another option to reach for with Patagonia’s Hi-Loft Nano Puff ($330), a burlier version of the classic jacket.

The Hi-Loft has 200 g of lightweight insulation (versus the Nano Puff’s 60 g). For extra durability, Patagonia added overlays on the shoulders and cuffs that it describes as “tough as nails.” The roomy hood easily fits over a helmet, making it a great choice for winter sports or cold-weather climbing. This beefed-up jacket is still on the lighter side, with a weight of just 27 ounces.

On x Zendaya Collection

On has been rolling out the celebrity collabs lately. First, it launched a capsule collection with FKA Twigs, and now it’s got a new line with Gen-Z icon Zendaya.

Zendaya worked with On and her stylist, Law Roach, to create a new shoe: the Cloudzone Moon. This lifestyle shoe is meant to take you from dance class to the grocery store to an afternoon walk, all in style. The line also includes a bomber jacket, bodysuit, and track jacket with matching shorts.

The bodysuit has a high mock neck with a zipper for a sleek silhouette, and the bomber jacket has detailing and ruching for a fresh take on the classic design.

Travoca DZ eCoolers

TRAVOCA enters the electric fridge-freezer market with an eye toward aesthetics and the off-grid experience. Recently launched on Kickstarter, the DZ eCooler ($520) has two compartments you can set at different temperatures. From -4 to 68 degrees, the cooler can lower the inside temp from ambient to freezing in 30 minutes, according to TRAVOCA.

The brand also boasts how “whisper-quiet” its cooler is, running on a compressor that won’t drown out the sounds of nature. And its wood-paneled exterior is designed to be less visually intrusive when you’re navigating the great outdoors. The 12V cooler is available in four sizes (25L, 35L, 45L, and 60L). It’s designed to be ultra-durable and energy-efficient, with a thick steel coating and multiple layers of insulation.

Gregory Alpaca Wheeled Duffel

Gregory made our favorite overall backpacking pack in 2025, and now the brand is expanding into more general-purpose travel bags and luggage. It recently released the Alpaca Wheeled Duffel, a rugged, durable bag. It comes in two sizes: a carry-on–friendly 40L version ($230) and a spacious 100L model ($300). If you’re going on an overseas outdoor trip, the 100L version is big enough to carry helmets, tents, and more.

Gregory designed the bags with a weatherproof fabric on top, and a lightweight, impact-resistant polycarbonate on the bottom for extra protection. The bags are also lightweight, with the 40L bag clocking in at 5.6 pounds — so it won’t break your back to load it in the overhead bin.

DJI Osmo 360

GoPro fans should take note: There’s another action-adventure camera on the market. Drone and camera manufacturer DJI recently dropped its first 360-degree camera. The Osmo 360 ($550) records native 8K video with a frame rate of 4K/100 fps. It captures clear, sharp images even in low-light environments, and its four microphones ensure it captures quality sound.

DJI’s camera packs a lot in a small package: The Osmo 360 can record for up to 100 continuous minutes and only weighs 6.4 ounces. And there’s no need to bring an SD card along: the device has 105GB of built-in storage. Designed to be waterproof and functional down to -4 degrees, it could be a solid option for your next big mission.

Simms x Grateful Dead Collection

The overlap on the Venn diagram for fishing enthusiasts and Deadheads must be sizable, because fishing apparel brand Simms just dropped a Grateful Dead–inspired collection of gear.

“Fishing and music both have a way of pulling you in, setting you adrift, and leaving you somewhere entirely different than where you started,” Simm’s website states. “The Grateful Dead has long been the soundtrack to that journey, twisting, turning, and flowing like a river.”

Products include hats, shirts, sun hoodies, and waders with designs that all express love for the iconic band. These items aren’t all style though; there’s substance too: Simms regularly earns high placement in our lists of best waders.

Evolv Phantom Pro

Evolv recently dropped a souped-up version of one of its bestselling shoes. The new Phantom Pro ($240) takes the aggressive downturn and basic shape of the Phantom and adds some technical features that might just help you send your project.

The shoe is the brand’s first to use its all-new rubber compound, the Evo-74, a grippy, high-friction material that excels at edging. It also has a Tensioned EvoWrap Rubber Midsole to help climbers generate more power through the toes. Evolv redesigned the shoe’s heel to provide more stability and security on heel hooks, a must-have for boulderers pushing their grade.
