Friday 6/3

  • 5 p.m. – Finish work
  • Fly from respective cities (Denver / Boston) and meet friend/driver Ben Parkison at the Sea-Tac Airport around 11:00pm.
  • 12:00 midnight – Drive straight to Mt. Rainier.

Saturday 6/4:

  • 2:00 a.m. Arrive at Mt. Rainier and crash for a few hours of sleep.
  • 10:00 a.m. – Drive to Paradise trailhead, talked to Rangers – discovered that our intended route (Fuhrer’s Finger) was a total firing zone of rockfall, so we drove over an hour to the Northside which was much less sunbaked.
  • Plan Change  Climb & Ski the Emmons Winthrop Glacier from White River Trailhead, adding about 6 miles and 1,000+ of vertical gain to plan.
  • 9:00 p.m. – Start up the Mountain.

Sunday: 6/5

  • 2:00 a.m. – Reach camp Schurman about 2 hours ahead of schedule. Hang out and stargaze for a few hours to let the snow soften up for better skiing.
  • 8:50 a.m. – Summit!
  • 2:04 p.m. – Back at the Trailhead, recorded 19.6 Miles and nearly 11K of vertical gain. Elapsed time 17 hours, car-to-car. Quickly pack and jam back to Seattle to catch respective flights home that evening.

Monday 6/6
